Diversity and Inclusion Services
SCARF delivers tailored training workshops for schools, local businesses and other interested groups to help build understanding of the refugee experience and equip participants with a broad range of cultural capacity skills.
Our training is co-designed by people from refugee and non-refugee backgrounds. This ensures it is guided by lived experience and expertise. It also allows us to provide employment opportunities for refugee entrants in the Illawarra.
By booking a workshop for your school or workplace you are joining a growing network of organisations who are committed to social inclusion and making our community a safe and welcoming place for people from refugee and CALD backgrounds.
Why Diversity and Inclusion Matters
Building Understanding
By sharing the human story in combination with accurate contextual information, our training informs the wider community about refugee experiences and issues. This helps to break down barriers, build empathy and encourage inclusion. Tailored training packages equip participants with cultural capacity skills that help people work better together in diverse communities and workplaces.
Inviting Welcome
By challenging misconceptions and fostering understanding, the program invites you as a member of the broader Australian community to contribute positively to building an atmosphere of belonging and welcome for refugee entrants. Businesses who take part in the training are invited to join our Business of Welcome network, where they receive public recognition for their commitment to creating inclusive work environments.
Creating Opportunities
When you book a session with the SCARF diversity and inclusion team you help provide opportunities for people from refugee background to be trained and employed as workshop facilitators. By sharing their knowledge and expertise within the community, facilitators further develop their skills and leadership capacities.
