Over 180 people joined us at the 2019 SCARF Illawarra Champions trivia night on Thursday 13 June at the Innovation Campus to help raise funds so that SCARF can continue to offer programs to recently settled refugees in the Illawarra.
We were buoyed by the incredible support from the community with over $7,000 worth of donations, and we are excited to announce that we exceeded our fundraising target of $15,000, with over $17,000 raised from this event. We raffled off 19 silent auction items, and had games throughout the night including the ever popular coin toss and guess the lollies competition, and we also raffled off the signed Socceroos jersey which sold for $1500.
Yasmin, a community member from Syria, spoke of her experiences to the sold out room on the night. Yasmin is now studying a Bachelor of International Studies at the University of Wollongong and is a valued member of the SCARF Community Education program and Let’s Lead participant.
Thank you once again to the volunteers who put this event together. A great night was had by all and we can’t wait to do it again next year!
