Commencing this Sunday, 17th of June is Refugee Week. To celebrate the diversity and common humanity of all people, we have been interviewing and photographing individuals from a range of backgrounds and experiences in the Illawarra community in a collaborative storytelling project with Bear Hunt Photography called ‘The More You Know’.
‘The More You Know’ is a series of photo essays giving a platform to people from refugee backgrounds to share stories and anecdotes that are as full of life as they are.
Too often, we see narratives about people from refugee backgrounds that are one-dimensional. While we recognise that it’s impossible to capture the depth and complexity of a person in their totality, we’re hoping to share stories that are a little more expanded, diverse, and real.
In this second instalment of the project, we’re featuring Yasmin.
You can check out the photo essay here. We hope you enjoy learning more about the life and experiences of Yasmin and her family.
A heartfelt thanks is owed to Yasmin, and her siblings, for sharing their home and stories for this project.
